Doreen Parsons is CEO and a founding member of the Women Unlimited Association. Through her leadership, Women Unlimited has supported more than 750 diverse women as they build careers in the trades and technology fields in Nova Scotia. During the past decade, she has developed significant partnerships with education, governments, industry, apprenticeship and community to address the systemic barriers that limit the full participation of diverse women in these fields. Previously, Doreen led and founded the Women’s Economic Equality (WEE) Society, establishing more than 50 women-centred initiatives that supported 7000 diverse women from rural and urban communities in Nova Scotia to develop new skills and secure meaningful employment. Doreen began in this field as the General Manager of HRDA Enterprises Ltd. of Halifax, a Community Economic Development organization that owned and managed seven social purpose enterprises, providing training and employment for hundreds of local citizens. Doreen is a Board Member of the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency, a Steering Committee member of the Irving Shipbuilding Centre of Excellence, a member of the Canadian Women’s Foundation Economic Development Advisory Committee and a past member of the Nova Scotia Advisory Council on the Status of Women and the Canadian Women’s CED Council.
