COVID-19: How Your Support Helps Women and Girls During the Pandemic
woman sitting by the ocean

The holidays are a joyful time for many but, for some, the season is filled with fear and violence.

This holiday season, YOU can help women find refuge.

Sofia’s story* illustrates the obstacles that many women face when it comes to leaving abusive relationships:

“We had gotten married soon after I moved to Canada, so I didn’t have family or friends of my own … My ex-husband always reminded me that I was dependent on him financially, and that I would have no one else if I left.”

Yet Sofia didn’t want her young son growing up in an abusive environment.

“The day my husband threatened to smash a mirror on my head, I knew I had to leave.”

She and her son found refuge at an emergency shelter supported by generous donors.

YOU CAN SUPPORT a woman like Sofia on her journey to safety and peace
by making a gift today!

The shelter and its services helped Sofia and her son begin rebuilding their lives, and she decided she wanted to give back. Today, she works as a counsellor at the same shelter, helping other women on their healing journeys.

Your gift will ensure that women who have experienced violence have access to safety and resources that will help them rebuild their lives, and children who have witnessed violence can receive counselling to help them heal.

Please remember to make your gift by December 31, 2018 at midnight to receive a 2018 tax receipt.
