COVID-19: How Your Support Helps Women and Girls During the Pandemic

Afterschool ReAct Program

Metropolitan Action Committee on Violence Against Women and Children (METRAC), Toronto, Ontario

METRAC’s Afterschool ReAct Program is a co-ed peer education youth initiative aimed at preventing violence against women and girls. This program serves marginalized teens, aged 14-19, in four high-need schools in Toronto. Youth-led training, planning, implementation and evaluation help youth gain tools for building healthy relationships. Program outcomes include building youth skills in peer facilitation, mentorship, self-reflection, youth leadership, healthy relationships, and community engagement to work towards ending gendered violence. The young people who participate in this program build the skills, confidence and knowledge required to become violence prevention leaders in their schools and communities.
