COVID-19: How Your Support Helps Women and Girls During the Pandemic

Engaged Creative Arts Groups for Victims of Conjugal Violence

Le Bouclier D’Athena / The Shield of Athena, Montréal, Quebec

In this program for survivors of domestic violence, an art therapist facilitates projects that allow clients to express themselves in a group setting and feel supported. Art therapy offers a safe way for survivors to share experiences that are difficult to articulate. Creating art also helps survivors to alleviate the effects of trauma, regain a sense of control, normalize stigmatized experiences, and discover new strengths and abilities. Participants may develop a trusting and safe relationship with the art therapist, which promotes their healing and supports them in rebuilding their lives.
