Leave Out Violence (LOVE), Halifax, Nova Scotia
Leave Out Violence (LOVE) is a violence prevention and intervention organization that works with youth who have experienced violence as victims, witnesses, or perpetrators. At LOVE, the belief is that violence—defined by participants as “anything that hurts”—is learned and cyclical. Participants learn and practice leadership and life skills while they create art—writing, photography, video, and spoken word. Their creations become powerful education tools to help community members learn about root causes and effects and alternatives to violence. LOVE’s programs in Indian Brook and Membertou First Nations respect and embrace local culture and traditions, while fostering youth voice and leadership in the community.
