Valerie Davidson, P.Eng., has an inter-disciplinary background that combines engineering and food science. Her professional career includes consulting engineering, food manufacturing, university teaching and research. Recently she has been a consultant to the United Nation’s Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) to develop guidance materials for food safety decision-making. A passionate advocate for creating a more inclusive environment for women in STEM fields, Valerie served as the NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering for Ontario from 2003 to 2011. Under her leadership the Ontario Network of Women in Engineering (ONWiE) was launched connecting all the schools and faculties of engineering in Ontario. Valerie continues to be involved in efforts to increase the participation of women in science and engineering. She sits on the Board of the Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation and has served two terms on the Board of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers. She continues to work with OSPE as a member of the WE Act Task Force and an advisor for the Breaking Barriers for Women in STEM project that is funded by Status of Women Canada. In 2016 Valerie received the Citizenship Medal, an Ontario Professional Engineers Award to recognize her contributions to public service.
