The Slaight Family Foundation Ending Gender-Based Violence in Critical Communities Grants 2022

To be deemed eligible for a Slaight Family Foundation Ending Gender-Based Violence in Critical Communities Grant, organizations must demonstrate that their proposal meets the following criteria:

1. Significant experience offering gender-based violence programs and services for women, girls, Two Spirit, trans, and non-binary people, and their children, who face multiple barriers and are underserved, including:

a. First Nations, Métis, and Inuit
b. Black
c. 2SLGBTQI+
d. With disabilities
e. Racialized
f. Refugee, immigrant, or non-status

2. Interventions that support survivors and/or their children or help to prevent gender-based violence, including:

a. Emergency shelter services, transitional housing, or other housing support;
b. Healthy relationships and consent education for vulnerable teens;
c. Programs that support survivors in rebuilding their lives;
d. Sexual assault crisis counselling or programs; and/or,
e. Counselling services for children witness to abuse.

3. Applicants must be incorporated non-profit organizations and have a valid charitable number from Canada Revenue Agency or be a First Nations Band or municipality designated as a qualified donee by Canada Revenue Agency. If your organization does not have charitable status or is not a qualified donee, we can consider an application in partnership with another organization that is a registered charity or qualified donee with a mandate relevant to your proposal.

4. Grassroots organizations with small budgets (defined as organizations with an operating budget of less than $1 million per year OR shelters/transitional housing with an operating budget of less than $2 million per year). NOTE: Applications may be accepted from larger organizations applying on behalf of a grassroots nonprofit organization, coalition, network, or group without charitable or qualified donee status.

5. Applicants must be focusing their work in larger urban centres and/or high density urban neighbourhoods. The Foundation had defined large urban centres as those with 100,000-999,000 residents, and major metropolitan areas as those with populations greater than 1 million residents. Applications for interventions taking place in communities smaller than 100,000 residents will not be considered.

Interested organizations are invited to submit a full proposal using the online form including budget and partner letters.

The submission deadline is Monday, March 21, 2022 at 5:00pm EDT. Proposals submitted after this date will not be considered.

Please note that we will only accept one application per organization in this grant stream. If Canadian Women’s Foundation has funded your organization previously, you may reapply, but note that we do not fund the same initiative more than three times.
