One of Fabiana Bacchini’s favourite quotes comes from anthropologist Margaret Mead: “Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world. In fact, that's the only thing that ever has.”
Before moving to Toronto, Fabiana worked as a broadcast journalist in Brazil for ten years. After she came to Canada, she became an entrepreneur and a life coach. This year, she launched a website to empower immigrant women (www.brilliantwoman.net).
She quickly became a part of her new community and started looking for ways to give back to the place that had welcomed her so easily. Even though she was successful, it was clear to her that too many women were struggling to make ends meet. After she had her first child, the desire to help women and their families only grew stronger.
“We can't close our eyes and pretend we don't see what's going on around us,” she says. “Once we know, we must do something about it.”
Then Fabiana learned about the Women Moving Women campaign at the Canadian Women’s Foundation.
“Women Moving Women is what everyone can do. It's the first step to help women move out of poverty, to make them dream again and live life to its fullest.
Through the campaign, Fabiana not only found a way to give back, but also a way to join one of those “small groups” that will change the world.
